Last night, on the 14th of January 2022, the police received reports that “drones” have been seen at the nuclear power plants in Oskarshamn, Forsmark, and Ringhals.
At Forsmark, the police confirm that a drone of a larger model has been observed.
At around 8 pm on Friday 14 January evening, a drone was seen over Forsmark’s nuclear power plant, north of Östhammar.
It was a guard at the nuclear power plant who alerted the police.
According to the police, the drone was of a “larger model” and could withstand the wind, which was strong in the area at the time.
– We got there directly, both by helicopter and patrols on-site, and searched the area. We have seen this drone for a long time, but then it pulls away towards the Gräsö direction, and in that situation, we lost it in the air, says Petra Blomqvist, press spokesperson for the police in the Central region.
The police are investigating the connection.
According to information to the police, a possible drone has also been seen at Ringhals, north of Varberg. At first, the police backed away from it:
– There have been indications that employees at Ringhals may have seen drones on-site, but no report has been received. So I can not say that it is confirmed information, says Petra Blomqvist.
Anna Collin, press manager at Ringhals, tells the Swedish newspaper Expressen TV that the incident has now been reported to the police:
– Last night, at around 8 pm, a flying object was observed that is believed to be a drone at Ringhals area. It was staff on-site who did it in our guard force.
Furthermore, a report has been received that a drone has been seen at the nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn.
The police have started a collaboration between the regions to see if the events have a connection.
– And we have to do that, of course, if it does, it is very serious, says Petra Blomqvist, press spokesperson in Region Mitt.
Registration in Oskarshamn
In Region South, the police confirm that a report has been received that a drone was near the nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn on Friday evening, but that it is unclear “whether the drone was over the protected object or only in connection with the area.”
They write on their website that they were also on-site at the decommissioned nuclear power plant in Barsebäck during the night “due to a possible observation of drones,” but that they then did not see anything.
– The incident is being investigated. But I have no insight into what measures are being taken, says Filip Annas, press spokesperson.
No suspects at present
The police in Region West confirm that they have been on-site at Ringhals, north of Varberg. They further refer to the police’s National Operations Department, which handled the helicopter in operation and can not comment on any observations of drones.
– The police helicopter has been commissioned to check Ringhals. They have flown over Ringhals and found nothing of interest there, says Peter Adlersson, press spokesperson.
The police in the Central and Southern region have written reports of unauthorized access to protected objects, violations of the Civil Aviation Act, and illegal depiction of protected objects. There are no suspects at this time.
