The U.S. Department of Defense is setting up a new team to investigate UFO sightings. Its called AOIMSG or Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, “unidentified atmospheric phenomena” are a potential security risk to pilots and raise concerns for national security. Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, in collaboration with the Director of National Intelligence, directed the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence & Security to establish within the Office of the USD(I&S) the new team (AOIMSG) as the successor to the U.S. Navy’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force.
The Pentagon’s Department of Defense is taking the UFO sightings more seriously and is setting up a new team to investigate them. The group’s formation is based in particular on the findings in recent years of unidentified targets in U.S. airspace reported by naval pilots.
According to U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, the group should assess and, where possible, mitigate the risks that unidentified targets may pose to pilot safety as well as national security.
The Department of Defense is particularly interested in the findings and risks in the airspace used by the armed forces, where other air traffic is restricted. The name of the group “Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group” (AOIMSG) refers to the identification and systematic management of objects in the atmosphere.
The word UFO itself is not mentioned by the Pentagon. In the United States, the authorities refer to the same term as UAP, or “unidentified aerial phenomena.”
According to a memo published by the Pentagon, Deputy Secretary of Defense Hicks instructed the Deputy Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security to set up a new investigation team with broader responsibilities and powers to investigate the phenomenon. At the same time, the new office will take over the responsibilities of the Pentagon’s UFO research program (UAPTF). The Pentagon announced its existence in August 2020.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Defense, The Pentagon is working closely with the U.S. Office of the National Intelligence Officer (ODNI). According to the release, the Pentagon takes reports of “airspace violations of both identified and unidentified targets very seriously” and is investigating each of them. At the same time, the Pentagon promised to tell more about the activities of the new research group in the coming weeks.
The Ufo report in June 2021 did not solve the mystery.
For decades, the U.S. Defense Administration has publicly downplayed the importance of UFO sightings, even though they have been surreptitiously investigated within the armed forces.
However, the tone of the debate has changed since the beginning of the year. Among other things, former president Barack Obama has taken a stand on UFO sightings. Also, former head of intelligence and former head of the CIA Central Intelligence Service.
The Ministry of Defense’s new research team is a continuation of the fact that last summer, the authorities promised to investigate the UFO phenomenon more thoroughly than before. The U.S. intelligence chief’s office, ODNI, released a “preliminary” report in late June by the UAPTF ad hoc working group set up by the Pentagon. In the same context, the Pentagon ordered. armed forces to improve reporting on UFO sightings.
The report covered a total of 144 UFO sightings made by defense administration employees in recent years. One observation was probably considered a balloon in the working group’s report, but no natural explanation was found for the others.
Of the reported cases, 80 were documented by a variety of means, including radar or infrared cameras in addition to visual observations.
According to a June UFOR report, there were 18 cases in which UFOs were found to be moving in an unusual and unexplained manner. In addition, in a “small number” of cases, U.S. military aircraft recorded radiofrequency radiation in connection with UFOs.
The report believed that a natural explanation for the unresolved UFO sightings would eventually be found. The report was also promised a follow-up, but at least a possible follow-up report has not been published.
Instead, a larger secret version of the report was made available at Midsummer, which has been made available to members of the Defense and Intelligence Committees of Congress, among others.
