Meanwhile, the Pentagon has reluctantly admitted the existence of unidentified aerial phenomena – better known as UFOs. That got things rolling. I took a closer look at that.
For decades, the world has been encountering a phenomenon that raises many questions, is fodder for science fiction films, and above all fuels the fire of conspiracy theories:
We’re talking about unidentified flying objects – or UFOs for short. Photos and videos of alleged UFO sightings are abundant on the Internet.
It is not uncommon for them to be forgeries. However, as already reported, recordings of supposedly unidentified objects were published – which went hand in hand with a decisive difference: After decades of denial, the Pentagon confirmed that UAPs are real.
Updated: You can read a summary of the Pentagon’s released UFO report here.
Ex-Pentagon employee on UFOs
The video taken from USS Omaha in 2019 displays UFO disappearing into the ocean off San Diego.
Again, the Department of Defense confirmed that the clip is a recording by Navy personnel and is being reviewed by the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) but does not disclose any official information about what it is. The question of whether aliens really exist remains officially unanswered.
The video aired a few days before ” 60 Minutes, ” a CBS News magazine interviewing two Navy pilots and one female pilot, two ex-Pentagon employees, and a Senate bigwig.
In the US television report Luis Elizondo, a former Pentagon official, comments on the mystery of the flying saucers: “I’m not telling you that, that it doesn’t sound wacky. What I’m telling you, it’s real.
The question is, what is it? What are its intentions? What are its capabilities?”
Former Navy pilot Ryan Graves is also part of the “60 Minutes” contribution. He describes the unidentified flying objects as a “safety issue.” Graves told CBS that pilots training off the Atlantic coast keep seeing objects like the one in the now leaked video: “Every day. Every day for at least a couple years”.
But instead of proclaiming the existence of aliens, Graves and other pilots suspect that the flying saucers could be one of three things: secret US technology, an enemy spy vehicle, or something otherworldly. Navy pilot David Fravor and Navy pilot Alex Dietrich also say that there is definitely something there.
UFO report due in June
It remains mysterious, and there are few answers to the questions about the flying saucers.
But according to CBS, this will soon be over: In August 2020, the Pentagon revived the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), in which Elizondo once was involved. The aim of the program is to collect and evaluate information about anomalous aircraft.
The Pentagon calls them UAPs instead of UFOs, so it was renamed the UAP Task Force – or UAPTF for short.
US Senator Marco Rubio also calls for detailed analysis after receiving secret documents about UAPs.
Last December, when he was still chairman of the intelligence committee, Rubio asked the Pentagon to submit a report on the mysterious objects to Congress by June 2021.
