In the world of Fairy Tail, magic and celestial beings intertwine, creating a rich tapestry of characters and relationships. Among the fascinating aspects of this anime is the connection between characters and their zodiac signs. Celestial Spirit Magic
Celestial Spirit Magic is central to the zodiac theme in Fairy Tail. This magic allows mages to summon Celestial Spirits, beings from another dimension, through the use of Celestial Spirit Gate Keys. These keys are divided into two types:
- Silver Keys: More common keys.
- Gold Keys: Extremely rare keys that summon Zodiac Spirits.
All Celestial Spirits are named after astronomical constellations. Celestial Spirit Mages summon these spirits by creating a portal that allows them access to the human world.
Contracts with Spirits
All Celestial Mages must make a contract with Spirits. When a Celestial Spirit Mage receives a key and opens its Celestial Gate for the first time, they have to set up a contract with the respective Spirit. This contract consists of asking the Spirit which days it can be summoned by the Mage. This simple agreement forms a dedicated and serious bond between the Spirit and summoner. However, under certain circumstances, Contracts can be broken if the Mage is arrested, releases the Spirit by him/herself, or dies. When the Gates are closed, it is required from both the summoner and the Spirit to agree upon the Gate's closure.
It is also possible for a Celestial Spirit Mage to summon the Celestial Spirit King, who does not have a physical key, but there are certain conditions to do so. The first condition is the ability to summon at least three Spirits at once. The second is that a Golden Zodiac Key must be sacrificed to do so. The final condition is that the Mage and the Spirit of the Key must have a high level of trust between them. Whichever Key is sacrificed to summon the King will then crumble to pieces, and will henceforth be unusable. As such, the Spirit of the Key will no longer be able to travel the Mage's world.

Lucy Heartfilia as Capricorn
Although Capricorns have been described as kinda unforgiving and knowledgeable which could make them condescending, I think we can all agree Lucy is far from that. However, other Capricorn traits, such as determined, ambitious, responsible and disciplined, describe Lucy very well. We have witnessed her ambition and determination to get stronger multiple times during the series, and it is also due to her determination and discipline that she has achieved many of her goals: Joining Fairy Tail, becoming a writer, publishing her own novel and working as a reporter.
Capricorns are also believed to be very ‘domestic’ in a sense that they greatly value family and family-life. Lucy has been depicted as super attached to Fairy Tail and Fairy Tail members, which she considers her family (like Natsu), and put great effort into tracking all of them when the guild had disbanded (which also reflects Capricorn determination). Natsu Dragneel as Aries
I feel like Natsu is SUCH an Aries, and not only because Aries is a fire sign. Aries’ are often bold, confident, motivated, energetic and cheerful. They’re always up for an adventure. Sound like Natsu? Being a typical shonen protagonist, Natsu is definitely really energetic, bold and especially confident. He’s the first one to advance into a fight, be it against an enemy or a guild-mate in a friendly fight.

He’s never doubted his own power since the beginning and was certain he would be able to find Igneel, even when he had no leads on where he could be. Aries’ are also really spontaneous, which I feel like is also really representative of Natsu, who would do and say the most random stuff at the most random moments. Aries people just love to have fun, which Natsu also really enjoys, and finds every quest to be a fun adventure. Canon Natsu sign: Cancer.
Gray Fullbuster as Libra
To be honest, there’s not THAT many things that would point Gray towards Libra in theory, but the vibes. He just has Libra vibes. Libras are balanced, fair, clever and appreciate justice. Gray is definitely one balanced and fair individual, he’s not quite as energetic and aggressive as Natsu, but he’s not as non-confrontational as Lucy either. He’s not quick to jump to conclusions or quick to react (as Natsu would do), he does take at least a bit of time to consider the situation he’s dealing with first. He’s definitely more careful and collected than Natsu when it comes to battles.
Libras tend to be more sensitive, or in touch with their emotions and I feel like this is definitely one Libra trait that Gray reflects. Although he seemed to ignore Juvia at first, he has now become one of the few male characters in Fairy Tail that are able to express romantic feelings. He’s been more affectionate and sympathetic with Juvia and not only that he has considered her feelings, he now seems to have returned them too. Canon Gray sign: Aquarius.
Erza Scarlet as Taurus
Taurus is an Earth sign characterized as very stoic, stubborn, practical and devoted. I feel like Erza is specifically one of the most stubborn and devoted characters of Fairy Tail. She’s always been very true to her beliefs and duties and she is devoted to her goals. I feel like one instance we can clearly observe this is her devotion to defeating Jellal at the beginning of the series, despite her attachments to him.
She is stubborn to the point it is impossible almost to change her mind and I feel like this is also reflected in her role in team Natsu, being this driven individual that would make sure the team is on track. However, Taurus is also ruled by the planet Venus (just like Libra), meaning they have a tender, loyal side to them. Erza is, despite her stubbornes and strictness, a very affectionate individual towards her friends. She’s also not ashamed or embrassed to show her love, as we have seen multiple times through her relationships with Jellal (romantic), Kagura (friendly [or romantic who knows ;p]) and just team Natsu and Fairy Tail in general.
