For gamers eager to revisit classic PlayStation 2 (PS2) titles, especially those with broken consoles, the PlayStation 3 (PS3) offers an intriguing solution. This article delves into the compatibility of PS3 emulators, focusing on ps2_netemu and RPCS3, and provides insights into playing your favorite games on different platforms.
Understanding ps2_netemu on PS3
ps2_netemu is the software-based emulator used on PS2 Classic games from the PS Store. In terms of models, ps2_netemu is used on all slim models, super slim, and non-backwards compatible original fat model PS3s. Some backup managers can mount PS2 ISO games and instruct the firmware to load them with "netemu."
The first PS3 fat models had components from the PS2, so they had complete or partial compatibility with PS2 games. If you want to play a few selected games because they are your favorites, using a PS3 with ps2_netemu can be a viable option.
Compatibility Issues and Solutions
For some games, there is no CONFIG file available, while others have CONFIGs published by users who found how to "fix" some problems. Eventually, someone could imagine other commands to add in the config to fix it completely.
Consider the game 'Phase Paradox' (SCPS-15005). On the PS3's "netemu" compatibility list, the game is listed as only having a minor issue of occasional slowdown. The game works on PS3’s ps2_netemu, but the slowdown is very intrusive. This game is very graphically intensive for the PS3, and some scenes will take ages to get through. The game audio loads fine, but graphics face major slowdown at points. The audio will be finished during a scene, but some cutscenes will still take a minute or so to finish rendering (without audio). It is pretty bothersome, and I don’t think the PS3 is capable of rendering a game like this at full speed.

As mentioned, a config can be made for it in an easy way by adding the 2 commands mentioned in wiki, but not sure if it will work. There are 4 groups and because the config of this game should be unofficial (a CONFIG file not made by Sony because they never published that game in PSN as a "PS2 classics") then the CONFIG should be located in the "CUSTOM" group.
However, it is essential to note that compatibility can vary, and some games may experience slowdowns or other issues.
RPCS3: PS3 Emulation on Android and Windows
RPCS3 is a PlayStation 3 emulator for Android, developed by the same team that once released the popular versions for Windows and Mac. The compatibility list of this adaptation of the emulator for mobile devices is not as extensive as the desktop version, but as you might expect, it is regularly updated.

Setting up RPCS3
You will first need to configure the emulator before you use RPCS3. As with the Windows version, the process is relatively long, although it is not that complicated if you follow the steps to the letter. Again, this process can take ten minutes or so, but once completed you can play any PS3 title on Android.
Controller Support
Using a USB or Bluetooth controller is essential to be able to play comfortably on RPCS3. After all, the vast majority of PS3 games involve a number of buttons in addition to the two sticks, so managing all these buttons on a touchscreen is very cumbersome. In the earliest versions of the emulator, in fact, the app crashes a lot when trying to use the touch controls. Fortunately, the app is compatible with Dual Shock 3, Dual Shock 4 and Dual Shock 5.

Differences Between Android and Windows Versions
The main difference between the PC and mobile versions of the emulator is that the PC version has been in development for many years. RPCS3 has been fully functional on Windows since 2017. This is reflected in its extensive compatibility list and the number of getting started guides and other help available. Gradually, the Android version will get the same level of support as the Windows version, but it is a slow process.
Enjoying PS3 Games on Android
Download the RPCS3 APK if you want to play PlayStation 3 games on your Android device. Thanks to this emulator you can enjoy some of the best titles from Sony's third console, wherever you are.
