Mysterious Metallic Sphere in Buga, Colombia: UFO or Art?

A mysterious metallic sphere with an unusual appearance has been spotted in Buga, Colombia, sparking debate about its origin. The object was seen flying over the town before landing nearby, according to The Hill.

The three-layered sphere features unique markings around its outer shell and lacks any visible welding marks or joints, characteristics typically found in man-made objects. This unusual construction has led some to speculate that the object could be of extraterrestrial origin.

Jose Luis Velazquez, one of the researchers studying the sphere, noted that it shows "no welds or joints," which bolsters the belief in its extraterrestrial origin.

Doubt and Skepticism

However, not everyone is convinced of an extraterrestrial explanation. Julia Mossbridge, founder of The Institute for Love and Time (TILT) and a researcher at the University of San Diego, remains skeptical of its extraterrestrial origins. "It looks to me like a really cool art project," she said, urging caution in drawing immediate conclusions.

Mossbridge framed the mysterious object as part of a "bigger picture" in which humanity must confront its own limitations. "We are entering a time when we don’t have the control that we thought we had," she said, noting that prior "grandiose" beliefs in total mastery blind us when "something shows up that doesn’t fit our model of the world."

She added, "If an artist is doing this, why is that? Well, I think it’s partly the same reason. It’s because we’re learning that we don’t understand what’s in our skies, what’s in our waters."

Mossbridge also sees the potential for international cooperation in studying such phenomena. "Because, for instance, the sphere in Colombia is in a different country. So, what are the rules about how we deal with something that’s interesting that’s found there?"

Official Investigations and Perspectives

Officials at the Pentagon's All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), established in 2022 to track UAPs, have stated there is no evidence suggesting that any cases they examined have extraterrestrial origins.

Why Congress Is Seriously Investigating UFOs

The U.S. government is compelled to investigate reports of UFOs to identify any issues regarding threats to national security. Sightings of unexplained objects have been around for decades.
Mossbridge added: “Frankly, we’ve been looking at UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena) for decades, and the federal government has admitted that there are things that we don’t understand, but we are investigating them.”

The Bigger Picture

Mossbridge says there are several agencies that could study the object if given access that would be able to further examine it. She says as people continue to experience and self-document these phenomena, we should be able to grow in our understanding of them. She added that the discovery-regardless of its origin-should serve as a reminder of how little we truly understand about the world around us. "We're learning that we don't fully understand what's in our skies or our waters," Mossbridge said.

Mossbridge said the coalition of individuals working to find answers, such as the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies, the UAP Disclosure Fund and the Galileo Project, are made of people of "all political persuasions."

"They are all trying to get rigorous information themselves, not necessarily waiting on the federal government, about what’s going on in our skies, what’s going on in our waters and actually trying to get international cooperation around these things," she said.

Mossbridge stressed the need for rigorous scientific testing before labeling any unidentified object a UFO. "Bring the object to a group like the Galileo Project."

While the latest finding in Colombia almost certainly has a more earthy explanation, it taps into that same sense of wonder and unease that has characterized UFO research for decades.
