From December 5th to December 6th, the Moon in meticulous Virgo will oppose Neptune in ethereal Pisces. But, what does that mean? In general, astrology can give you an idea of what energy will be present, but you can’t ever be sure how that energy will manifest. Even still, transits involving Neptune are always fun to ponder.

Understanding the Opposition Aspect
The opposing aspect is a “hard” aspect in astrology. It means that the two celestial bodies are sitting 180-degrees apart. The signs in opposition will share the same modality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable) but opposing elements (fire, earth, air, or water). Think of them as having the same job function, but different approaches. This opposition is happening in the Mutable mode, specifically the moon is in the mutable earth sign of Virgo, and Neptune is in the mutable water, Pisces.
The mutable signs occur at the end of a season, Gemini twirls us from spring into the summer, Virgo rounding off summer to beckon fall, Sagittarius leaping from fall into winter, and Pisces ebbing from winter to flow back into spring.

Virgo Moon vs. Neptune in Pisces
So what happens when the luminary of intuition, emotions, and instincts posts up in the scrupulous Virgo? The Virgin’s prodding, punctilious energy would want to look at any emotional mess, and get it in order! But, a disruption to that energy is in our midsts.
The equally emotions-based Neptune is chillin’ in the metaphysical Pisces, and wants not to get too involved in the details. Ruler of the dreaded 12th house, Neptune is in its Ruling sign of Pisces. It definitely wants to make sense of the nonsense, but it wants to poke into the why of the nonsense. How did we get here? Why is this intrusive thought or persistent attitude coming up? But, where practical, Mercury ruled Virgo wants to get the to-do list done (how can I figure out how I feel in a dirty house? Did I remember to get bread at the grocery store? I gotta set that therapy appointment!).
Dreamy Neptune in Pisces wants to slow your roll. Meditate & Pray. Whatever house Pisces rules in your chart has been calling for a long time, and we can’t keep putting that off. So, we have these two, well meaning energies butting heads on the job. Neptune in Pisces wants to get into the muck and mire so the big picture can become clear, while the Moon in Virgo can’t imagine how we get to that if the mundane hasn’t been addressed first. The result, could be brain fog. Being not quite sure where to start, or how to get through the mist.
So, how might this cosmic struggle show up in the day to day? That depends. Check your transit chart. Where the Moon dominant person or Virgo placements may feel the need to finally get the “small stuff” out of the way, (again, it’s time to set that therapy appointment or start taking those meds!) the meditative Neptunian or Pisces placements might want to pause for a breather. Misunderstandings between the more meditative, far out person may drive the Type A analysts particularly crazy right now. (Or these opposing qualities in yourself could be pretty irksome). Heightened sensitivity could rule the moment, especially in the houses ruled by Pisces and Virgo in a person’s chart.
At any rate, it may best to blend the approaches of the signs today. Try to find a practical way to address some deep spiritual needs. Organize some clutter that may help you feel more at ease. And maybe (perhaps) set the damn therapy appointment. This transit is a brief visitor and will be over by December 6, 2023.

Natal Moon Opposite Neptune
Moon opposite Neptune natal can cause misunderstandings, confusing feelings and relationship problems. This is a more challenging natal aspect requiring high self-awareness and analysis. The main difficulty comes from your imagination and oversensitivity. You tend to imagine things that are not real. For example, someone may innocently say, “What are you doing today?” to start a conversation. But you may feel they are accusing you of some wrongdoing, then get defensive and feel persecuted.
At the other end of the scale, you may think they are showing romantic interest and fantasizing about hot sex and a lifelong relationship. Deception itself is something you must address. Your insecurities and anxieties are evident to people who would take advantage of you. You may tend to deceive yourself and others, which can be subconscious or inadvertent because of your confused feelings. Being misunderstood, victimized, or rejected can lead to fear, disappointment, isolation, and self-pity. Mental illness, drug addiction, alcoholism, and poverty are symptoms of this aspect.
If you do suffer such debilitating symptoms, the best option is to treat the causes, which are the initial confusion and misunderstandings. Increased self-awareness will help you better differentiate between truth and fiction, reality and illusion. You must ensure they understand precisely what you mean when interacting with others. Ask questions if you are unsure of what they think and feel. Accept that you are sensitive, caring, and compassionate and have no reason to feel inferior or guilty. You must also protect yourself against negative influences.
Moon Opposite Neptune Transit
Moon opposite Neptune transit increases your emotional sensitivity so that you can misunderstand others and become confused about your feelings. You should take extra care in your dealings with other people because you will likely get the wrong impression, and they will get a false impression about you. Your intuition and psychic impression will tend to be negatively influenced by your subconscious fears and be inaccurate.
You may over-idealize someone and ignore their negative character traits, leaving you vulnerable to deception and scandal. You should be very clear and honest about your intentions and avoid gossip. Do not take your feelings about what people think or say about you too seriously. You could quickly become discouraged, paranoid, disoriented, scared, or guilty and weak. Take extra precautions if you are not feeling well, as you could be more susceptible to illness and infection.

Managing and Embracing Sensitivity
Rich, colorful emotions. Moon Neptune aspect reflects a poet’s sensitivity and imagination. When balanced by other parts of your psyche, it becomes a unique asset. Managing the strong sensitivity isn’t always easy, especially if you’ve had a rough upbringing with unstable emotional foundation. Like most Moon related tension in the horoscope, the answer lies in fully feeling the emotions rather than avoid them.
There’s no shortage of imagination when the Moon is in conjunction to Neptune in the natal chart. How this quality is used depends greatly on the other aspects to this conjunction and the natives’ level of maturity. In a difficult chart, over-sensitivity, dependency, self-pity, irresponsibility, escapism, and irrational fears are possible. There is a powerful need for a creative outlet for their imaginations. Intuitive and dreamy, these people “feed” on inspiration. They want to connect to something higher than themselves-to rise above the mundane.
The idealism of this position is tremendous, but it also opens them up to some serious let-downs. Sensitive to a fault, they live in the world of feelings. They just as easily feel ecstatic as they do pained by life, although these processes are very much private matters that are not usually apparent on the surface of things. They want to believe that people are honest, kind, refined, and good-hearted, and they will pick up any small indication that this could be true.
They are very accepting, and generally make those close to them feel quite free. However, the closer you are to these people, the more you will realize that it can be very easy to burst their bubbles. Emotionally, they can be hard to pin down. They rarely categorize people, and they have a hard time making definite statements or commitments. People with this aspect generally need a fair amount of “down time”, as they are very sensitive to all of the mixed energies of any given milieu. Emotional nourishment is constantly sought, and these people find it difficult to satisfy their emotional longings. The expression “divine discontent” applies here.

Moon Neptune Aspect: Sensitivity as Vulnerability
Refined sensitivity can be either ecstatic or painful. Having a natal Moon Neptune aspect usually means magnified feeling sensations. Your feeling of love can be felt as a blissful, swooning infatuation. On the other hand, the pain of abandonment can be devastating. Happiness is experienced as pure joy, whereas depression can be crushing. Unless grounded by other factors (earth, Saturn) in your horoscope, such sensitivity can easily turn into vulnerability.
Numbness and Escapism: Moon Neptune Trap
Growing up with special sensitivity isn’t easy, for others may label you oversensitive. Exposure to harshness or abandonment can shock your psyche into numbness. Being numb is a defense mechanism, and many Neptunians actually choose to be numb in order to avoid experiencing the intensity of their emotional pain. Escapism, then, becomes the norm.
While escapism is a common reaction to the overwhelming sensitivity of Moon Neptune aspect, there is an alternative: To choose to be alive by feeling everything.
Sensitivity with Courage becomes Clear Vision
Fully feeling your emotions takes courage, especially if you have the sensitivity of a Moon Neptune aspect. However, actually feeling the pain of disappointment, sadness or separation will be healing to your sensitivity. By opening yourself to accept the painful emotions, you’re also opening to the joyful emotions within. When you choose to feel instead of escape, numbness gradually fades, and the feeling of joy returns. When you have the courage to feel, your sensitivity will allow you to see things more clearly, rather than less. Your imagination turns into vision, aided by your intuitive understanding of all things.
