Spiritual Causes of Diseases: Unveiling the Hidden Connections

Have you ever wondered why people get sick? It may seem like random chance - some people just pick it up, or they are destined to have it because of their genetics. But that is not what the Word of God says. The Word says that the curse causeless shall not come (Proverbs 26:2 KJV). Do you think that sickness and disease is a blessing or a curse? The Word also says that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy; but Christ came that we would have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10 KJV).

So does disease represent abundance and wholeness of life, or does it lead to death and destruction in a person’s life? We may not want to ask these questions because they may lead us to an uncomfortable conclusion. That is what Dr. Henry Wright and his team at Be in Health® have been doing for more than twenty-five years. When Dr. Wright began asking these questions and seeking God, the Holy Spirit, and His Word for the answers, he came to an amazing discovery: The Word not only tells us where disease comes from but it also provides keys to our freedom and healing!

One of the first scriptures that Dr. Wright used was Proverbs 17:22: "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." Because of his understanding of human physiology, Dr. Wright knew that the marrow is found in the bones and the marrow is the center of the immune system. So if the marrow of the bones is dried up, guess what goes down with it? He was able to test this revelation on a lady who he was visiting who was sick with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS/EI), and he asked her who broke her heart. She responded with tears. He was able to pray with her and she received the healing that she needed for her heart.

That was only the beginning. Over the years, Dr. Wright along with his Team at Be in Health have discovered that over 80% of diseases are spiritually rooted, including high blood pressure and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Many of us are now coming to understand that physical symptoms and illness often begin first in the emotional and mental bodies. We are not just a physical body. We each have an aura of subtle bodies including the etheric, mental, emotional, astral and causal. Energy healers, clairvoyants and shamans are able to feel or see these bodies.

Our western system of allopathic medicine can offer emergency life saving surgeries, as well as subdue and control symptoms yet the root cause is often not addressed. Because our emotions and thoughts are energy, if they are not expressed 'in motion' they can become stuck in the body causing a block in energy flow. Trauma or inherited cellular memory can also result in less than optimal functioning of the meridians of chi or prana flowing through the body.

Reiki and other modalities that work with the energy field can have lasting healing results when the energies causing illness are gently unblocked. Shamanic techniques, which have been the traditional form of physical and psychic healing for thousands of years can remove dark energy intrusions, spirit attachments and offer soul retrieval through energy healing and plant medicine. These modalities coupled with counseling and lifestyle changes show that holistic treatments offer a more sustainable and lasting form of healing. There are many current studies to prove that energy healing works.

You may wonder how we can be separated from God when we are a believer and have received the free gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. Many of us have had an earthly father who maybe did not know how to represent Father God’s love to us. Therefore, Father God is guilty by association. We imagine Him to be watching our every move ready to strike us if we are bad. Maybe Jesus is our good buddy but we’d rather not have to deal with the Father.

How can we have a relationship with Father God if we so greatly fear Him and fear to seek God? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. We must understand the root cause and that the enemy will try to plant all sorts of lies in our hearts in order to keep us from loving God.

He will plant fear, guilt, shame, and even accusation towards God. He will try to get us to believe that disease comes from God or that we are not good enough to receive God’s love or healing. The enemy wants us to think that we need to perform perfectly in order to receive God’s love but the Word says otherwise. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Here is where we need to learn separation. We need to understand that we do not wrestle with flesh and blood. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The enemy will bring thoughts of unloving, self-hatred, rejection, fear - whatever he can in order to make us believe that we are separated from God’s love or unworthy of it. When we believe these lies and agree with them, we give the enemy an open door into our life.

Dr. Henry Wright says this in his book, A More Excellent Way, “In this ministry, we deal with many autoimmune diseases: lupus, Crohn’s disease, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and MS, to name a few. All autoimmune and immune system diseases have possible spiritual roots of self-hatred, self-bitterness, and guilt. Diabetes can be defeated. Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and blood pressure can be defeated. When we line our hearts up again with our Father’s heart for us. When we remove the blocks of the enemy that are in the way and learn how to love God and love ourselves again, healing on this level can begin to come forth.

This list by Louis Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life, is a valuable reference for your own healing journey. Working with her suggested affirmations can begin unraveling the psychic energy stuck in the body, emotions and mind to create space for healing. From my own personal experience this process is most effective in a multilayered approach combined with reiki, shamanic healing, flower essences, dietary changes, exercise and nature therapy.

Since we are spiritual as well as physical beings, our thoughts, attitudes and emotions affect our health at least as much as the physical world. Profound healing becomes possible when we address both the spiritual and the physical aspects of a condition. Use this section to address the spiritual component(s) of a condition. Seek medical attention from your healthcare provider to address the physical.

In our post about Louise Hay, you will find a list of emotional causes of physical pain or diseases as a reference tool to grasp the psychological root reason for an ailment. Here are some examples:

Spiritually rooted diseases are the results of separation from the first level - yourself, second - from others, and thirdly - from the Higher. Some diseases come as a result of a failure in relationships with others and include but isn't limited to cancer, upset, and strokes. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system include lack of support, prolonged mental strain, fear of the future. Also, a feeling of lack of support in life, lack of integrity, obstinacy, inability to endure the hardships of fate, and lack of emotional support, guilt.

Line your heart up again with the Higher. Remove the blocks and love yourselves again, healing on this level can begin.

Many psychologists say that in any disease, there is a psychological component. What science has already managed to describe and explain today becomes routine and ordinary for us. Meditation is the most effective way to eliminate the causes of disease.

The soul of a person does not just put on his body, but they become one. The soul is not in the body, like a person in clothes. No! Soul and body, this one - living flesh. Only our consciousness divides them into two. That means that everything, literally all the organs of the body correspond to the spiritual organs of the soul. The body organs do not just correspond to the organs of the soul; they are united by a fantastic complete unity, which is not in the physical world, and it suggests that changes in the body affect the soul and, conversely, cause mental problems. In any case, they connected.

The concept of aura - the luminous energy shell of a person - was introduced by the ancient Indian sages. They believed that the aura could tell about a person's sensual or spiritual thoughts and say about his state of health and that all beliefs are imprinted on his shell.

Positive thinking is a type of thinking where, when solving life problems, a person sees mainly advantages, not disadvantages; good luck, success, and life lessons, not mistakes and bad luck; goals and objectives, not problems; opportunities, not obstacles; their desires and resources, not the needs and requirements. Positive thinking is not to deny the negative.

Gaining emotional well-being is inextricably linked with the emotional maturity of a person, but not all adults can be considered emotionally mature. Mature people stand out among others because they are successful in social relations and live in complete harmony with the outside world. They are distinguished by a benevolent disposition, a steady good mood, and a generous attitude towards others. They do not panic, are not inclined to submit to fears, and are not in prolonged melancholy. Emotionally mature people can also feel sadness, sadness, and other negative emotions, but they can cope adequately.

The Living Ethics teachings say: ... The whole Cosmos is raised on thoughts. All good and all harm is based on beliefs. The thought gives life, just as thought brings death. When will people understand this! In all areas of cosmic amplitude, thought will be the cornerstone; it can change karma, determine the timing, and open the gates and close them. She grows wings behind her shoulders, brings closer to the Upper World, and pushes into the abyss. The essence of the law is based on thoughts. The profound wisdom of thinking is a guard against chaos.

Here are the 10 most powerful spiritual root causes of illness I have encountered; both in my own journey with Cystic Fibrosis, endometriosis, complex-ptsd and in the healing journeys of those I’ve supported so you can begin to read your symptoms as sacred information rather than physical failure.

  1. SOUL ASCENSION One of the most aligned spiritual causes of dis-ease is soul ascension: specific dis‑eases are sometimes chosen by the soul before incarnation to accelerate growth and awakening. The more intense the human experience, the deeper the lessons and the faster the evolution, with certain illnesses acting as portals into purpose, gifts, and higher frequency embodiments.
  2. SHAMANIC SICKNESS Spiritual sickness occurs when an ancient soul with deep shamanic roots reincarnates and is initiated through chronic physical illness, mental dis‑ease or near death experiences (NDE’s) usually present from birth or early childhood. They are not “just sick”; they are alchemising and remembering their inherent medicine, much like the traditional village shaman who was recognised and prepared for their calling even before birth.
  3. KARMIC IMPRINTS Dis‑ease can also manifest as karmic imprints carried over from other lifetimes or as ancestral karma the soul has agreed to transmute. Karma is not a punishment but a mirror, revealing where the soul is ready to evolve, complete cycles, and liberate stuck patterns through the body.
  4. LINEAGE HEALING Some illnesses appear as a call to heal the family line, especially when the same conditions repeat across generations. Heart and lung issues can reflect suppressed grief, while reproductive dis‑eases often hold mother‑line wounds such as lost pregnancies, stillbirths, and sexual trauma in both this lifetime and the ancestral field.
  5. ENTITY ATTACHMENTS Entity attachments are another spiritual cause of illness, creating ongoing chaos and dis‑ease in the body, heart, mind, and soul. These dense energetic parasites rarely incarnate with a soul at birth but often attach during early childhood trauma, shock, or extreme vulnerability and then feed on fear, addiction, and self‑destruction.
  6. TRAUMA IMPRINTS Many “later in life” dis‑eases reflect a dysregulated nervous system shaped by unresolved trauma stored in the physical cells and tissues. The body always remembers: what we don’t process will form into physical disorders. It can manifest as on-going illness, depressions & anxieties, addictive patterns, chronic pain and conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome that correlate with a frozen survival response.
  7. FREQUENCY RESONANCE What we embody, we magnetise: long‑term low vibrational states such as fear, shame, guilt, and anger can crystallise into physical and mental dis‑ease. Suppressed anger may express through the liver, chronic fear through anxiety and gut issues, and persistent self‑hatred, guilt, resentment, and shame through patterns like heart problems or digestive issues linked to “undigested” emotional experiences.
  8. SOUL LOSS & FRAGMENTATION In moments of shock, abuse, or ongoing violation, parts of the soul can split off, leaving a person feeling empty, dissociated, or chronically unwell. Until those fragments are retrieved and integrated, the body may express pain, autoimmunity, or long‑term symptoms as a cry for wholeness and soul retrieval.
  9. COLLECTIVE ENERGIES Our bodies also respond to the collective field, somatising the unresolved pain of war, patriarchy, colonisation, climate grief, and social injustice. Sensitive, empathic souls often process for the field, carrying symptoms that mirror the wider collective crisis and the specific energies they are here to alchemise.
  10. SOUL CONTRACTS Some illnesses are woven into soul contracts with parents, partners, children, or communities to catalyse awakening, reconciliation, or deeper love. Through this lens, disease becomes a sacred pressure‑cooker that forces generational patterns to the surface so they can finally be seen, felt, and transformed.

Illness attributed to supernatural forces may be due to soul loss, ancestral spirits, tame household spirits, wild forest spirits, malevolent spirits, or shaman spirits, but can also be attributed to magical interferences by humans in the form of curses. These actions must be corrected by spiritual interventions or the illnesses may continue and result in death.

Spiritual illnesses may occur when one or more souls separate from the physical body. Separation may occur in a number of ways. The seriousness of the illness depends on the number of souls that are lost, the length of absence from the body, the distance of the soul from the body, the firmness of the spirit’s control over the soul and the exact circumstances surrounding soul loss.
