Bunkhouse fifth wheel RVs are some of the best RVs for families, offering ample sleeping space and storage for extended trips. When you camp with kids and other family members, you need plenty of places for people to sleep. A fifth wheel bunkhouse is an RV that combines the specialized hitch of a fifth wheel with a floor plan that includes bunk beds. Often, the bunk area is in a separate room that can be closed off from the rest of the RV.
Fifth wheels are great because they offer stability when towing, making them slightly smoother to maneuver than towable travel trailers. Furthermore, fifth wheel owners can leave the camper behind to explore nearby areas. Fifth wheels are the most residential-feeling of all travel trailers, largely due to their size and interior height.
A fifth wheel RV with bunkhouse has tons of benefits. In addition to the easier tow-ability of a fifth wheel, you’ll also enjoy larger storage areas, perfect for bringing along everything you need for an ideal camping trip. Fifth wheels can sleep more people, which allows you to camp with your whole family or bring along a few friends. Bunk beds use space efficiently to fit more beds in a smaller footprint.
With the additional sleeping and RV storage space, fifth wheels with bunkhouses can be great for a variety of people. If you have multiple kids or your family is still growing, a bunkhouse option provides plenty of room for little ones to grow. Bunk beds can also be great for blended families or extended families who like to travel together, giving everyone a dedicated space to retreat to if they need some peace and quiet. If you like to travel with friends, the extra space in a fifth wheel is a great way to spend quality time together.
With many luxury and lightweight Heartland fifth wheel models, you can find a bunkhouse floor plan that has all the amenities you love with the additional sleeping space you need. And you won’t have to sacrifice your favorite features, either.

Here, we delve into some of the best 5th wheel bunkhouse floor plans available, highlighting their unique features and benefits.
Key Features to Look for in a Bunkhouse Fifth Wheel
Our favorite bunkhouse fifth wheels offer more than just more bedroom bunk space. Along with generous bathrooms and living areas, the overall RV is designed for more people. Features like kitchen islands, washer-dryer prep, and extra storage-inside and out-make these fifth wheels better suited for longer stays with kids and guests.
When evaluating 5th wheel bunkhouse floor plans, consider the following:
- Sleeping Capacity: Ensure the RV can comfortably accommodate your family or travel group.
- Storage Space: Look for ample storage, both inside and outside, to store camping gear and personal belongings.
- Bathroom Facilities: Consider the number of bathrooms and their accessibility from different areas of the RV.
- Living Area: Evaluate the size and layout of the living area, including seating and entertainment options.
- Kitchen Amenities: Check for essential kitchen features such as a kitchen island, residential appliances, and sufficient counter space.
- Washer-Dryer Prep: If you plan on longer stays, washer-dryer prep can be a valuable addition.
Front Bunkhouse Fifth Wheels: A Unique Layout
While bunkhouse 5th wheels are common, few feature the unique front bunkhouse fifth wheel floor plan. While rare, these campers may be the perfect layout for you, especially if you’re looking for the best 5th wheel for full-time living with a family.
Many manufacturers have designed front bunkhouse fifth wheels in previous model years, such as the 2019 Jayco Eagle HT 29.5FBDS. Compared to other RV types, a front bunk fifth wheel is a rare find.

Keystone Montana High Country 397FB
Keystone’s new-for-2025 Montana High Country 397FB features a front bunk room specifically designed for roadschooling families with two or more kids. The bunk room is accessed up the steps from the single entry door and boasts four bunks with USB charging, reading lights, and nightstands for each. Turning right from the front entrance, you step into the front room, which has four bunk beds. Each bed has USB charging and LED reading lights.
The desk is a major difference from some of the other front bunk fifth wheels on this list, as it is large enough for two kids (or adults) to work or study simultaneously. On the utility side of the camper, at the foot of the bunks, there’s a small desk with a freestanding chair and multiple drawers for storing school or office supplies. There are only two windows in the front bunk room, as the entertainment center on the camp side features a 40” LED TV instead of a central window.
This fifth wheel’s front bunk room includes a huge closet with washer-dryer prep. So, your kids either have a dedicated space to hang their clothes-a rarity in any RV-or you can keep the laundry room separate from your primary suite. Looking for a fifth wheel with washer and dryer?
Although the bedroom in this Montana front bunk fifth wheel is slightly smaller than the Sanibel, pocket entry doors make moving through the space more comfortable. Finally, the primary suite boasts a 72” x 80” king-sized bed situated in a slide-out to provide added floor space.
Wildcat 35FUN
The first two front bunkhouse fifth wheels on our list featured four bunks, but the Wildcat 35FUN changes things up with a lower queen bed and two smaller upper bunks. There’s no slide-out in this bunk room, however, so it’s not quite as spacious as the first two mentioned above.

However, you still get a small desk for work or studying and a full bathroom, so the kids or guests don’t have to wait their turn to shower in the primary bathroom. But don’t miss the features of the primary bathroom. This Wildcat is the only front bunkhouse fifth wheel on our list with dual entry doors, providing access directly to the rear bathroom from outside.
In the main living area, the seating options are more versatile, featuring a hi-top table with freestanding chairs and theater seating across from the entertainment center and fireplace. So, while there isn’t that super sofa, you still get comfortable couch seating for two and dining space for four more.
Your primary bedroom stands out with a king-sized bed situated in a slide-out with overhead storage above it. At the foot, there are two tall wardrobes with three pull-out drawers below each and a central set of dresser drawers.
RVer’s Tip: Readers should know that Forest River’s Cardinal RV lineup boasts very similar floor plans to Wildcat’s, with some differences in layout, exterior colors, and graphics.
Keystone
Our final front bunkhouse fifth wheel to compare is another new-for-2025 addition to Keystone’s fifth wheel lineup. It features four bunks, a desk on the utility side with a ward closet next to it, a single slide-out on the camp side with prep for a TV hookup, and a second wardrobe with drawers below it.
The main living area is extremely spacious, thanks to dual opposing slides. The campside slide-out houses a freestanding dinette and fully reclining theater seating with massage settings, lighted cup holders, and USB charging. The kitchen is stocked with residential appliances like the other front bunkhouse fifth wheels. It’s designed around a central kitchen island and is set ahead of the entertainment center, with a 50” TV across from the theater seats.
The primary suite features a 70” x 80” king bed in a slide-out. You get overhead storage above the bed, two wardrobes with dresser storage, and a TV hookup at the foot.
Additional Bunkhouse Fifth Wheel Models
There are also mid bunk fifth wheels and 5th wheels with rear bunk floor plans.
Keystone Cougar Sport
Keystone’s Cougar Sport family fifth wheel is a lightweight, affordable bunkhouse fifth wheel with many choice features. With a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 9,500 pounds, most full-size trucks can tow this fifth wheel. Families will love the convertible, U-shaped dinette in the main living area for meal times.
Keystone Montana High Country 389BH
With a gross vehicle weight rating of over 16,000 pounds, the Montana High Country 389BH is one of the largest 5th wheel bunkhouse floor plans on our list. In the bunkhouse, the 389BH offers a unique design with a hide-a-bed sofa, a lower bunk, and two L-shaped upper bunks. The primary bedroom boasts a standard king bed in a slide-out, but Keystone improved the layout by extending the slide-out length.
Keystone Cougar Hero Edition 364BHL
The Keystone Cougar Hero Edition 364BHL bunkhouse fifth wheel offers one of the most unique exterior finishes on any 2025 RV. Sure, it turns heads when you enter a campground. But there’s plenty to love inside this 5th wheel camper with a bunkhouse. The primary sleeping area at the front of this bunkhouse floor plan boasts a 60” x 80” queen bed with two separate entrances to the forward bathroom. On the exterior, you can cook bigger camping meals utilizing the outdoor kitchen with a camp griddle.
Jayco Eagle SEL
Jayco’s Eagle SEL fifth wheels offer luxury features in lightweight floor plans that are easier to tow with full-size trucks. With a GVWR under 10,000 pounds, lightweight towing is also one of the Eagle 5th wheel’s best features, especially compared to the other models on this list.
Jayco Eagle 355MBQS
Redesigned for 2025, this 5th wheel Jayco bunkhouse features a central bonus room with a bunk loft above it. The Eagle 355MBQS is the perfect layout for maximum 5th wheel versatility. Above it, the bunk loft is the ideal central living space for kids, as it overlooks the main living area. Because it’s one of the largest fifth wheel RVs on our list, this Jayco Eagle offers a primary king bed front suite and a living room with dual-opposing slideouts and a huge central kitchen island.
Jayco Eagle HT 29DDB
With a GVWR of 10,750 pounds, the Eagle HT 29DDB is slightly heavier than the Cougar Sport and Eagle SLE models above. However, it’s another excellent lightweight 5th wheel for those with properly trimmed full-size trucks. At first glance, the single slide-out floor plan is unique for a fifth wheel of this size. It houses the U-shaped dinette and 12V refrigerator, but having a single slide means less maintenance over the life of your camper. The rear bunk room offers the same dual double bunk layout as the Eagle SLE, complete with a wardrobe, headboard storage, and steps for easier bunk access.
Sabre 38DBL
It’s rare to find a 5th wheel bunkhouse with a private bunk room and a loft, but that’s exactly what you’ll find in the Sabre 38DBL. Yes, that second full bathroom also makes this Forest River 5th wheel bunkhouse a rare RV with two bathrooms-not just a bath and a half.
Forest River Arctic Wolf 3650SUITE
Forest River manufactures some of the largest fifth wheel RVs with bunkhouse floor plans, and the Arctic Wolf 3650SUITE is among their best layouts. Identified by its ‘SUITE’ model code, this 5th wheel floor plan features a truly luxurious king bed suite with private access to the bathroom. The bonus bunk room is also unique. It’s centrally located with a jackknife sofa and a flip-up bunk in the slide-out. To increase its sleeping capacity, Forest River added a trundle bed under the sofa and a second lofted bunk area, allowing you to sleep up to five comfortably in the bonus room alone.

Sierra 3550BH
With the ability to load in nearly 3,500 pounds of RV essentials and camping gear, the Sierra 3550BH offers the highest cargo capacity of any bunkhouse 5th wheel on our list. Your cargo will be distributed throughout, with a dedicated pantry, a massive pass through compartment, abundant cabinet storage, and a truly luxurious closet in the primary bedroom that spans the RV’s entire width. However, this bunkhouse is where you’ll find something quite different from the others on this list. Instead of traditional stacked bunks, the Sierra boasts a 60” x 74” queen bed on the ground floor with a ladder up to the 54” x 74” loft bed above. That’s ample comfortable sleeping space for a small family while you still get a king bed in the primary bedroom.
Prime Time Crusader 382MBH
The Prime Time Crusader 382MBH ranks second on our list in cargo carrying capacity, but it takes the top spot as our list’s 5th wheel bunkhouse with the highest GVWR at 16,298 pounds. That upper bunk is mounted on a HappiJac bed lift system that makes it easy to raise and lower, similar to the garage beds you’ll find in the best toy haulers. The rest of the layout features the most popular fifth wheel rear living floor plan, which includes theater seating, a kitchen island, an 80” convertible sleeper sofa, and a freestanding dinette.
KZ RV Durango HT 286BHD
With a layout similar to the Jayco Eagle 5th wheel bunkhouse floor plans, the Durango HT 286BHD from KZ RV offers a smaller layout for easier towing. Double queen bunks highlight the rear bunk room, featuring a wardrobe closet and steps for easier top bunk access-no climbing a ladder. The living area slide-out houses a U-shaped dinette and a hide-a-bed sofa across from the well-apportioned RV kitchen.
Cruiser RV Essence 28DB
With a GVWR of just under 11,000 pounds, the Essence 28DB offers another lightweight 5th wheel to rival the Cougar Sport and Eagle HT above. However, this Cruiser RV boasts a slightly higher cargo capacity than those Jayco and Cougar fifth wheel bunkhouse RVs. It also has a traditional booth dinette for those who favor that style over the U-shaped design. An extended countertop below the TV offers a space for a breakfast nook or coffee station, but there’s ample counterspace throughout the L-shaped kitchen.
